CGM answers your questions about generating sets

CGM offers a wide range of generating sets, including portable, industrial, and special application models such as telecommunications, construction and military. Our GenSets are available in different power ratings and configurations to meet all energy needs.

The apparent power (A), indicated in kVA, is what is specified on the nameplate of a GenSet and is the power for which the GenSet is calculated and built. The active power (P), indicated in kW, is normally what is transferred and used by the load connected to the GenSet. The two powers are related by the power factor of the load (or cosϕ) by the relation: P = A x cosϕ. The power factor is between 0 and 1 and its value depends on the nature of the loads that the GenSet must power. In the case of resistive loads (e.g. heaters, lamps, TVs, small tools or appliances) the 2 power values coincide (a resistive load has cosϕ=1). In the case of inductive loads (e.g. electric motors, ovens, welding machines), the active power P is less than the apparent power A the power factor is lower.

Yes, CGM offers generating sets that are ideal for residential use, providing reliable and continuous power during outages, with models specifically designed to be quiet and efficient. Check out the Portable and Zero Noise range.

Gasoline generating sets are generally low-power and indicated for non-intensive, temporary and primarily hobbyist use. Diesel generating sets are indicated for medium and large-scale civil/industrial applications and are suitable for both emergency use (mains backup) and continuous use (production).

Absolutely! CGM is dedicated to designing and creating customized solutions, working closely with customers to understand specific needs and deliver generating sets that perfectly meet their requirements.

To determine the power of the generating set, it is necessary to know not only the nominal power of the equipment that, once connected, will operate simultaneously, but also their peak (or inrush) values, especially when starting up such equipment. For example, an electric motor at start-up can require current of around 6-7 times its nominal current. Therefore, the generating set must be able to provide power greater than the sum of the peak consumption of all equipment that might be started at the same time. To adequately calculate the generating set power, the nominal power of resistive equipment (lighting, TVs, small electrical appliances, etc.) must be added to the power required for inductive loads (e.g., electric motors): it is reasonable to multiply their nominal power by 3 to account for peak demands.

Choosing the right generating sets depends on various factors, such as the required power, type of use, and environmental conditions. The CGM expert team is available to help you select the model that best fits your energy needs.

The ATS is an electrical panel that allows, in the case of using the generating set in an emergency (covering outages, instability, or mains failure), to automatically transfer the load of the user from the mains to the generating set and vice versa.

Yes, CGM provides complete technical support and maintenance services for all its generating sets. We have a network of qualified technicians and authorized service centres to ensure that your generating set always operates at its best. Visit the page dedicated to our services here.

It depends on the electrical system used by the GenSet's user for protection against indirect contacts and, therefore, on purely technical and economic assessments, based on the characteristics of the installations. CGM provides the GenSet with an adequate earthing connection point: depending on the above, it is up to the customer to decide whether or not such a connection is necessary. In fact, this choice is not the responsibility of the manufacturer; CGM can advise on grounding the generating set based on the application and electrical system.
